DESPAIR

Cold

I was quite a fool,

And I regret it everyday,

My lack of fortitude,

My lack of industry,

It pains me to think of it

It's true,

This isn't something,

That has much use.

But I must let it out

Each day passes with a certain coldness,

Not a chill,

But an iceberg,

Along my spine,

Splintering out into each and every muscle,

And a heat,

Inside my chest,

Confusion in the mind,

Chaos in the body,

The worries, oh the worries.

They fill up my mind,

Taking with it all the oxygen,

It feels as though I'm going to faint,

But I somehow arrive momentarily,

At a calm,

A melancholy calm,

Somewhere,

Resting in the darkness,

There is some warmth,

Some hope,

Some Forgiveness,

It isn't strong enough to fend of the pain,

But just strong enough,

To be noticed,

And oh what a joy it is,

To feel something in me,

Somehow,

Has not given up on me,

It still cares,

Its love is unconditional,

It is beautiful,

I feel blood rush to my cheeks,

A soothing release up the back of my neck,

Thank you.

Whatever you are, holding me together,

Loving me when no one else will,

Thank you.

I will wait out this terribleness,

Until I can feel your embrace once again.

Cold Embrace

Folder:
Love
Filled with despair
“I'll meet you there”
Said to the phone
My heartbeat drones
To meet your love
And all thereof
To act, to show
So that they'll know
That we've moved on
(Our shared con)
All eyes assume
Within the room
But I just can't face
Your cold embrace

The Edge

The Edge

By JFarrell

We stand here, on the edge,

What do you want to do?

Turn back and run away?

Take my hand and jump?

I leave the decision to you,

And I will be by your side.

But,

Take a moment….

Close your eyes….

Take a deep breath…

Can you hear it?

The blood rushing through your head?

That is the sound of everything.

Listen to it,

Feel it.

Badoom- whoosh, badoom-whoosh.

It pulses with your heartbeat.

That is the sound of the beginning

And the end

All of eternity

Rushing through your ears.

All that was, is

And is to come

Is in that sound.

Here,

At the edge

What do you want to do?

Take my hand

And choose.

I will never let you go.

Author's Notes/Comments:

choose hope

One

Verse 1:
Every breath you take,

I watch you slip

Further away into death.

Are you still measuring

The tears you've shed?

Chorus:
Maybe, you wake up

Drenched in sweat.

Is your conscience

Crawling on the floor?

Are you okay?
'Cause I understand.

Verse 2:
'Cause time ticks away

At every breath you take.

No one knows your story

Or why you're here.

You'd keep walking without

A road or a choice back.

Bridge:
You are the one.

When I was wandering

Between life and death,

You held out your hands for me.

Last-Chorus:
Do you have scars?

Do you have wounds?

Are you counting the breaths you take?

You are the one.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by the Korean Hip-Hop song: "One" by Epik High.

In Your Shadow

Verse 1:

Reality scares me to death.

I'm afraid to close my eyes.

Running out of places to hide.

I''ve become a ghost in your shadow.

In your shadow, I will pray for you.

Chorus:
Time won't stop or end.

We stand united, undivided.

Just be the light

and shine hope on

Those that need it.

Verse 2:
Where did we go wrong?

What have we left behind?

Where is God now?

In your shadow,

I will just be the light.

Bridge:

These days are out numbered.

Where do we go from here?

F.E.A.R - Face Everything and Rise Or

F.E.A.R - Fear Everything and Run.

In your shadow, I will pray for you.

Last-Chorus:

T.H.I.N.K - True? Helpful (Hurtful)? Innovative? Necessary (Nice)? Kind?

We're running out of time.

In your shadow,

I will promise

To pray for you.

Author's Notes/Comments:

After hearing of the election results in America last night, I am heartbroken, devastated, numb, etc. I don't know what to think. This song is dedicated to the Americans in this situation who are AGAINST a Trump presidency.

The Void

Into the howling dark I go.

Following a broken and lonesome road.

As I travelled on

I reached a ledge.

Down I look, only to see

the Void.

The Void was limitless.

Without a beginning or an end.

It called out to me

In the strangest of ways.

I edge closer

to get a better look.

And what did I see?

An image of all my shattered memories

and broken dreams.

The Void called out yet again.

And my mind starts to spin

as the torrent of despair starts coming in.

Slowly at first

But intensifying in it's speed.

The waves of hopelessness

closing in, crushing me.

I try and turn back the way I came.

Just to find that the road has disappeared.

Disbelief and shock are what I first felt.

Then slowly, I realized that all along I've been here.

No going back now.

So I do only what's left.

I step into the Void.

Falling beneath it's calm surface.

Never to return again.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This was written when I was going through a hard fought battle with depression. The Void was my depression and it seemed for so long there was no escape from it, that in fact it was so powerful. That I should embrace it.

The Wind is Never Too Late

Folder:
Wayward Motions

The Wind is never too late
Minutes and hours may pool into an endless shadow clock
but She cares not for the tick tock tick tock
She has been cast into many worlds
With no hope to ever unfurl

Ravaged with unrest
We seek Her company but know not what is best
For Her

She curls Her arms in a lover's embrace
We reach out in hope
We leave with despair

To Her
we are a ghost of live's past
we are a measure of time She cannot understand
we become dust in Her shapeless lands

And yet... the Wind is never too late
She casts Her endless touch
Hoping        needing        yearning

She is here
She is now
She is always
(The past cannot present itself
when the future was never there)

Sadness beckons, widens, and burdens
And like a loose cannon
we shoot out into the distance
reaching out for anything

To hold
To conquer
To master
To love

But, The Wind... She knows
She is never too late
She catches our follies when we become one with the daisies
She carries our songs which blankets those worlds
She chronicles our stories and heralds them across endless sands

The Wind is here
The Wind is now
The Wind is always

For us
For Her

Author's Notes/Comments:

After returning from a trip to the mountains I am finding myself in unrest. I miss the wind across my face. I miss the serenity of the forests. I miss many things and yet I aim to adjust the sails of reality and move forward. Hopefully, soon.

The Joker

She smiles when there is no reason to

During serious conversations arbiratiry thoughts force her to grin

It disturbs some and is the reason for shouting and misplaced sessions of anger from most

Her mind wanders while she's focused and she accomplishes less but realizes more

She smiles when there is no reason to

The world is churning mass of self inflicted wounds and the desire for progress both at the behest and detriment of others

The news has become a cycle of psychopathic people trying to outdo each other while perpetuating a cycle of violence

She focuses on her family and friends so she smiles

She smiles when there is no reason to

She does not enjoy the company of too many people

The constant noise in parties continuously grates in her mind and gives her dehabilitating headaches

She prefer reading, studying, music which impacts meaninful emotions or passes along a poignant message

She has few friends and yet  does not identify  herself as accountable, far from dependable and in a state between fear of letting people down and a need for companionship

She smiles when she has no reason to

She does this because smiles attract people and the most terrifying sound she has ever heard was the sound of silence

Quiet

I tried to scribble my confessions on a piece of loose leaf

Last night

But I couldn't help to feel its insignificance

It's muted nature

My soul barking into a muzzle

Like a dog in a kennel

About to be put down

Shocking how quiet our lives

Can be

Churning with silent force like a windmill

But no one ever sees the electricity in our struggle

I thought about calling you but that felt

Just the same

I put the book down and excused myself

For another cigarette

I saw flashes of darker days

Hollow gazing into that thunderous bay

All of their compliments became lies once again

Her playful glances become intrusive advances

Im paralyzed in a dream

Locked in insanity
