Cold

All alone All along

like porcelain shavings

her skin began to crack

like a feather floating on thin air

she's losing strands of silken hair

the mirror spits back

all the qualities in which we lack

like needles in our eyes

poisoned with vain lies

she savored the quiet moments

devoid of conversation

the sound of still breathing

the footsteps that followed him leaving.

the closer I feel

the further you fade

the more I crave

the less you feed

so I chose not to need

a single thing..

will there ever be a solid bridge built to cross..?

a river below, to toss our fears away...

voices muffled, as she sank deeper

yet no hand reaches.

sunshine streaks through the surface

the only warmth you'll get

engulfed in cold fluids

& a heart weighed down by loves disillusions---

many reminders of what could have been..

all alone

she knew it all along..

*Winter Is (Now) Part 2*

 December.5.2013

 Trisha Barrek Hopkins

Winter is loving

Winter is cold

Winter is for the young

And for the old

Winter is awesome

For this is true

Because we've been told

Winter is for me

Winter is for you

Winter is for every family

Families big and small

And ones that have their own crew

Winter but only comes once a year

Not in spring or fall

But it only comes in the coldest days of winter

You know when it's near

The birds fly away

And when you wake up It's freezing outside

But you go out anyway In the snow to play

Build a fort....Sit there....Wait and hide

For the one who will get hit by your snowball

Will try to get you by the end of the day

So make sure to duck and get away

Make sure to have alot of ammo placed by

And once again sit quietly and pray

This time you'll get your shot

And not miss or you'll hurt your pride

But of course once again you miss

You try again and hit your target on spot

You have your ultimate bliss

He got hit with a snowball on the side of his head

By your little sis

You give her a high five

And jump for joy

And are glad you got him while you're alive

This year you finally got the boy

Winter is so much fun

But for now I'm heading in to get warm

And my boots feel like a ton

From all the snow that got inside

We have to hurry

Because here comes another storm

The clouds look dark,puffy,and wide

Yay! It's begining to flurry

Winter is loving

And I am cold and wet from the snow

I really don't like shoveling

You didn't care to hear before

But now you know

The fun events of today

In my diary I will store

So say good-bye to the bitterness of winter

Set it free

It's never a bore

Winter has a charm

The best part

Is when we have our first snow

It's so gorgeous outside

It brings warmth to your heart

From the sun It's all white and so much glitter

Not a snow flake misplaced

It's just prettier

On our way to get on our sled

Down the hill we slide

You won't want to miss the fun

Family all by your side

Memories....holding on to each one

Winter is loving

Winter is cold

Winter is only here for a little while

So for now I'm going to enjoy

Sit back and watch it fall with a smile

Winters Last Stand

Just shy of 9PM.

Cold front is here.

The wind is a blowing cooling my beer.

Another change in the weather.

Another change in the wind.

We're all getting tired of this start to the new year.

Geese go home.

Sun come out.

Let us warm up and thaw-out.

*The Earth Beneath You*

October.1.1997
Trisha M. Barrek Hopkins

When ever you walk around
You step on rocks beneath your feet
You hear a crunching sound
Where ever you go the earth and foot meet

The rock so cold and dark
The trees so brown and bare
If you happen to walk without shoes
You'll get cut or end up with an ugly mark
Or better ye get a bruise
Walking on glass would be a foolish dare

The sand is tan and dull
People say the earth is a beautiful sight
Or you have a beautiful soul
But they never wondered
What it would be like without light

The earth beneath you is dark and dreary
Damp and cold
It's like a horror series
Keeping the earth from falling
You could never hold

*Winter Is (Then) Part 1*

July-22-1991/92
Trisha M. Barrek  Hopkins

Winter is loving
Winter is cold
Winter is sharing all alone
People sit around the Christmas tree
Like you and me

Giving our gifts to the people
Who are caring
For the people who should not be alone
Like me
On Christmas eve
Winter is for boys and girls like me
Winter is for kids alone in their beds

Waiting for Santa to come

Please come soon so I'm not alone
Winter is loving
But i am cold
When they wake in the morning

Winter is me
Winter is you
Winter is for the whole family.

Closeness, No More

The cold distance,

Between my fingers;

The void,

Where you once sat.

The abyss that grows wider,

As curiosity gets the best of me.

There you are again,

Running in circles,

Sicker than a lab rat.

When was it,

You and I?

Where is the closeness --

That sigh of relief?

The gap widens,

Slipping further,

And then I let go.

No longer is there the need --

To sink my fingernails in,

And hold on for dear life.

The abyss will swallow me --

The void of blackness will consume me

--

And there will be nothing left.

A shell --

Something no longer in existence,

Where I once would have been.

How do You Know?

How do you know when you've gone too far,
down a road that's cruel and endless?
How do you know when you've gone too far,
down a road that's cruel and friendless?
Is it when the fog has you lost?
Is it when your heart is cold and bound in frost?
Is it when you cease to feel,
or when time can no longer heal?
Is it when you lose your hold?
Is it when you regret the lies you've told,
or is when you've gone too long,
Without your heart knowing what is right or wrong?

Silent sanctuary

so much I wish I could say but know I shouldn't utter a word.
silence is my sanctuary
haven't you heard? out of the whispers
a bleak void is what separates this voice from that choice to say
what would slice you up into oozing chunks of aching flesh
take your mind & contort the rest.
I am the bruise inside
the purple faded on pale rough skin.

when in doubt, i'll cut it out
all the pain within..
you may judge what I speak
but it'll come straight back to you.
your face is like a terrible sin
a memory that freezes me in between motion
crumpling my bones
suddenly everything gets so cold.

trust not what is seen
for it lies through gorgeous white teeth
& beautiful eyes, they undress you in vulgar ways
& ears that don't know what you mean.
& it feels as if theres a knife being pushed into your throat..
unable to escape.
only option left
is cry your heart out
in hopes of being saved

sleepy

my feet are cold
on your carpet

on your linoleum bathroom floor

i am thirsty

it is 2:30 in the morning

it is quiet and i am happy

i don’t know what to say

i cleaned your shower for you
