Cold Bonfire

FABLE:

Cold Bonfire

It was quiet and dark. The ice storm had left the whole earth devastated and in ruins, and all the creatures had started to lose faith on survival. “We shall remain together and together we’ll reach happiness and survive” said the Alpha wolf to the village. Days went by and the Alpha, as well as the rest of the animals on the village, started to work together and protect each other. Everyone was kind to one another, solidarity was all over the village. Rabbits, birds, wolves, foxes, turtles, deers and other animals did their best to prevail. They all ate the same food, had the same rights, and helped one another; the pain caused by the long cold temperatures and ruins no longer ached so much. The village started to look better, everyone had built their own little shelters, and had responsibilities according to their abilities. The big animals gathered together materials to build and work, medium-sized animals harvested food and other supplies, the Alpha dog and his crew administered and protected the whole village, the reptiles help on transport, the little ones took care of the sick animals, and help on other duties that needed precision. One day, Raccoon and Fox came with a huge discovery: they could produce fire with rocks.

The Alpha got noticed of the great discovery Raccoon and Fox had made, and gathered the whole village to tell them the happy and promising news. The news spread and everyone danced and sang with joy “we’ll no longer suffer during cold winters!”. The village was happy, the Alpha was no longer worried about the future of his animals and everyone felt proud about Raccoon and Fox. This two became stars among all the creatures of the village, they started working very hard to carefully produce the fire and amount of heat they needed to defrost the village, but decided that the first thing to do was to provide heat to the sick ones and then start to defrost their habitat. Everyone agreed with the decision of benefiting the sick ones with a warm climate first, but not Wildcat. Wildcat thought he and his friends could also produce fire and defrost the area at the same time they heated the sick animals. The Alpha wolf denied Wildcat the permission of creating fire, only Raccoon and Fox could do it, they were the experts dealing with fire.

But Wildcat and his crew refused to follow the Alpha’s orders, they had been watching Raccoon and Fox make fire for a while and learned their technique, and started to build fire on their shelters without caring about anything else. But indeed the wildcats ignored so much about fire and its power. One cold and windy night, the wildcats created a huge and beautiful bonfire get together with the rest of the animals by the side of the supplies and working material area which were mainly pieces of broken trees, and sticks. Suddenly the wind got stronger and violent, the bonfire started to grown until it reached the supplies area and the fire spread all over the village, burning every single part of it. Hours later, the cold ended the fire, and all that remained were  ruins and the echoing noise of silence.

Jack and Jill Easter

Folder:
Just a thought!

I slid down a hill upon my sash

and spilled my box and broke my ash

In a puddle layed my old friend Jack

His pail was dry so we headed back

We climbed back up this grassy hill

Where's the rope and pail? said Jill

I substituted a hose and cable

We can pump it in the next fable.

Jill was just so tickled by this

She leaned over and gave Jack a kiss

Jack said, wow, I'm feeling funny

Jill said, Jack, it's just my tongue, hunny

Jack said, Jill, what you doing down there

Jill said Jack, I was lookin for the Hare

Jack looked up and said, "it sure is sunny"

Jill said, I think I found the Easter Bunny

Jack said Jill, do you think he's from the South?

Jill said, "I think he might have Rabies, he's foamin at the mouth"

Jack said,  That's the rich creamy goodness with the center filled over...

Jill said, I never had this kind before, but, "Thank you Russell Stover"

The cockroach and the mouse

In spite of the deep silence that exists, stuns the sound of the nature, and if you get close and put good attention to the silence of this abyss, you would be able to listen to some weak voices that move with the wind without direction but with a destination marked.

“So tell me Mr. Cockroach, how many times have done this trip?”

“Well if I told you wouldn’t believe me, so let’s just leave it like more that I can count”

“It’s nice to know that my seat partner has more experience than me on this type of journeys. It’s the first time that mice are call to the trip”

“You don’t have to be nervous. Changes need to happen, but don’t worry the next one will happen after a long time. Meanwhile we do evaluations to see who are the species most qualified for taking a step forward over the next big change”

“What do you mean by “we”? So, this means the cockroaches are the ones who evaluate species?!”

“Impressive isn't it? The most hated specie is the one who ends up living. Over the time we realized that surviving doesn't mean to save yourself, it means to be able to work together and save the most lives that we can”

“Wow that’s amazing! But that leaves me thinking, what happens with the other species? We leave them just to die?”

“I know what are you thinking, but we can’t give ourselves the luxury of bringing species that are not capable to do a change for the mutual survival, if the world changes, not only we should change, but we must change.”

“But sir, what could be the worst thing that happens?”

“The past millennium we gave the opportunity to a certain specie to survive, but during the journey they didn’t had the courage to overcome it’s instincts in the trip... and that cost us the lives of other species, so it could be worse than you think son”

“I see… well at least you don’t have to worry about mice in the trip right?

“I hope so, anyway enjoy the trip it’s going to be a long way to get there”

“We must hurry up then.”

Some species have survived during this big journey, because this is not the first time the end of the world has happened or near to happen. This species evolve and try to survive in a lonely world where there might only be the same kind of animals. For others the end of the world had approached, because as some people say “your world ends when you die, there might still be creatures left in a world without you.”

The Bear and the Turtle

 Laughing

The sun came out that morning, gradually illuminating leaves of a large tree that was near a river, that river was the reunion spot of all the animals, here they gathered to talk about their day and about how beautiful it was the place where they lived. All animals were very close, but there was a pair of inseparable friends, a bear and a turtle. The whole world was very curious about this friendship, and also they found it kind of funny. They are very different, said the rabbit, the turtle is so boring!, said the bird, but none of this comments mattered for them, they were happy with that friendship. They became friends since the begining, when all of this started, when the huge trees were only small plants and there were no sun or stars in the sky, they were already togheter. Altough they were very different, they mutually support themselves, the bear always defended the small turtle from the other animals whom want to take advantage of her, and the turtle taught the bear how to be more patient and tolerant with everybody else. The creator of the world wanted to make the world peacefull and all the animals should like each other and treat each other like family and brothers just like the turtle and the bear. Animals had to learn to live with each other and protect each other. There was a lion in the community of animals and he was jealous of the great relationship the bear and the turtle had. The lion was lonely and angry all the time and he didn’t like that the turtle and the bear were happy all the time. The lion made a plan to ruin  the friendship between the turtle and the bear. One day the lion approached the happy bear and told him that the small turtle was saying bad things behind his back. At first the bear didn’t believe the arogant lion but after hours and days of trying to convince him the bear got angry and enraged. The bear wanted vengance and went on a hunt for the small turtle. The turtle was happily drinking and swiming in the river when the bear approached him very displeased, sad and angry. The turtle asked him what was going on and without saying anything the bear plunged over the turtle. Right at that moment the turtle was able to get into a conch right by the riverside. The bear tried break the shell but just couldn’t. After hours of trying his claws started to get sharp. The bear and the turtle were never able to get along again. Now the turtles have a big shell around their bodies to protect themselves from big animals like the bear and the lion. And the bears have great sharp claws from scratching them with the turtle shell.

Mrs. Fluff and Snuggles

Snuggles and Mrs. Fluff woke up in a dark and moist cave, confused and disoriented. They couldn’t remember how they had gotten there, or the last thing they had done. At last they gathered their strength and went outside, not knowing what to expect.

-Gee Mrs. Fluff, do you know what the heck happened? -Snuggles said quite scared and nervous.

- Oh Dear. Where are we? Where’s my family? – Cried out the desperate mom.

-I’m scared. I want to go home.

-There there honey, everything is going to be okey. –Mrs. Snuggle said as she consoled the little bunny. -Lets go outside and try to find them.

Snuggles and Mrs. Fluff started to walk aimlessly through the cave, looking for an exit. The dark and worried eyes of the old bunny looked at the poor young little thing, and started to sing a tune, to sooth him and try to calm him.

-"Soft bunny, warm bunny little ball of fur, happy bunny…."

-WAIT! Can you hold my hand as you sing?

- Sure thing honey -she said and continue the song.- "...sleepy bunny..."

-No, that’s not right, from the start again.

-"Soft bunny, warm bunny little ball of fur, happy bunny, sleepy bunny, prr prrr prrrr".

-Look!- cried out Snuggles.- I found my friend’s house.-

They looked everywhere but couldn’t find any trace of any of them. After a long search, they decided to keep walking, to try and find the end of that huge cave.

It felt as if a whole day had past, before they finally found the light at the end of the tunnel, they came out and everything looked different, there was grass and trees but they looked as if they had lost all the life that used to be in them. Everywhere there was silence. They kept walking looking for somebody but there was no one to be found.

Finally, Mrs. Fluff pointed at a bush that seemed to be moving, slowly a fox came out from it. He stared at them for just a second, and then, he simply vanished. Puff.

Snuggles ran to where he used to be, leaving Mrs. Fluff behind.

-Wait!- She cried out. -These old legs can’t run like they used to.

Snuggles kept running and running until he arrived at a familiar old lake, but it was nothing like he remember it, the water wasn’t crystal clear and the trees didn’t sing anymore, there were no more dancing frogs or colorful fishes.

Mrs. Fluff finally caught up with the little bunny and held his paw, she held it tight as she caught her breath. A single noise came out of her mouth but then nothing else did. Puff. She wasn’t there anymore. She had left him, alone, with his paw hanging to nothing. The little bunny stared at were Mrs. Fluff was supposed to be, there were parts missing, the path were he came from wasn’t there. He looked down, there was nothing there to stand on. Puff.

The end.

A new balance in the world

These story begins short after the coyote eats the first animal, some of the leftovers are found in the forest by other animals, which were attracted to it and when these animals tasted the meat, they became addicted to it, the birds who tried the meat transformed into eagles and crows.

Some of the meat fall in the water and the fishes that taste it transformed into sharks and killer whales. When the bigger animals saw the killing between his brothers and sisters, they asked the gods to intervene and stop the massacre but the gods didn’t answer their prayers, so the animals were left to solve their own problems that they have created by their own.

Then the small animals decided to make groups to defend themselves, this worked at first but as time passed the same groups started to notice that there wasn’t enough food for all of them, the hunger was so bad and there was barely any food that some of theme started to eat the decomposed bodies of their deceased partners, these animals, who eat the decomposed bodies of his brothers and sisters, became the hyenas and the vultures. When the food ran out the groups of animals started to move to another location where there was food for everyone but in these trips the carnivorous attacked the groups and the wars began were the herbivorous  killed to defend themselves and the carnivorous for food, these wars make the gods so angry that they created a new being who was both a herbivores and a carnivorous, these new being will be a punishment for all the animals, these new being didn’t have any claws or fangs instead he used rocks and sticks to create weapons and traps, and not even the biggest of the animals were not safe of these new being. When these being finished to punish the animals the gods order him to separate the animals in a way that would be balance in the world. He separated the animals in a way that there was a balance between them where they could live learning from their environment knowing where to hide and seek for food, he kept the animals who were more loyal and useful for him like the dogs, and the horses and exiled the rest of them to the most wild and dangerous forests with these he marked the ending of the old era and the start of a new balance world and the gods saw all of this and they knew that the world would never be the same ever again. And the moral of the story is to follow the rules they are made for a reason.

The Sloth

Rodrigo Garza

The outraged gods finally had internal peace with themselves and decided to conceive earth. The chaos reining the territories was over. Grass, trees and green bushes became present. The green color was everywhere. The rays of the sun arose from the clouds and living creatures appeared, this animals had a world to live in, a home that the gods had entrusted them to take care of. Equilibrium in the world was possible because of order, the order of having a clean environment and the effect of a functional society. Unity and teamwork made the perfect combination among animals and the planet.

The animals serve the planet, and the planet serves the animals. This kept the gods contented for ages.

Everything was perfect; all the animals were performing their respective activities as always, except for one… The sloth. The sloth starts to wake up after its 20-hour nap. -“What an incredible nap. I should go and eat something”- it says. Then it proceeds to get off the tree, breaking lots of branches, including a bird’s nest in its way down. The sloth landed next to the giraffe family, who where resting after cleaning. “Oh, it’s you again… You are not sleeping. That means you are going to eat something, it’s the only things you do; Sleep and eat.” Said the giraffe. “I’m too tired for this nagging. Plus you are all being the dumb ones. Don’t you realize that all this ‘taking care of the planet’ is stupid? I haven’t done a thing for this planet and everything is just fine!” Replied the sloth. The giraffe stayed quiet as it thinks. The sloth proceeds to steal the food of the rhinoceros. “Why are you stealing? You can’t even eat that much food, you are way smaller than rhino,” said the giraffe. “Shut up long-neck, I’m way too tired to look for my own food” The sloth said while it eats a fifth of rhino’s food and then throws the rest to the ground. “What are you doing? That’s polluting!” “Ah… I told you, you are all way too dumb.” The sloth climbed its tree for a second nap. The giraffe, who was tired, decided to tell it’s family to stop working.

The lion, who saw everything, became jealous that the giraffe family had stopped working. He decided to call up a meeting with all the animals. “Since the giraffe and the sloth had decided to stop contributing to this planet and to the gods’ entrustment, I propose to banish them form our lands forever!” Said the Lion. “What are you talking about?” Said the sloth. “Don’t blame us for your foolishness, the gods were clearly joking when they told us to take care of the environment, nothing is going to happen if we don’t. They’re making fun of us by obligating us to work without purpose”. Suddenly, the tables were turned, all the animals agreed with the sloth’s arguments and decided to stop working.

Rapidly enough, everything that was once green was now covered by a thick layer of waste, dead bugs, and food residuals. The world was falling apart. Not too soon after, the gods noted this impairment in their world. They decided to do what they have done before with the human’s world; they ended the planet once again.

The Hawk and the Rat

By: Enrique Almaraz Guajardo and
Patricia Garza

The shadow of a lone hawk circled the barren peaks of a tall, rocky mountain. His golden eye surveyed the ground, searching for something to eat. He sighed, knowing that he would find nothing; he hadn’t seen another survivor for weeks. It had been months since the world dried out, and slowly — but surely — its inhabitants were dying along with it. A sudden movement at the foot of the mountain caught the hawk’s eye, and with a fell swoop, he landed on the ground. Around him fine dust rose, he blinked and focused his eyes. He was standing in front of a desert rat, pale with fear. The hawk had his wings extended wide, so wide it seemed the whole desolate world was covered in darkness.

“Don’t eat me!” the rat cried. “If you eat me, you will be all alone.”

The hawk pondered this and said with an intense voice, “But if I don’t, I will die.”

“Others will come,” said the rat.

“Then I shall eat them too so that I can survive!” screeched the hawk.

“Then you should get on with it and eat me once and for all.”

“What’s the rush?” asked the hawk pensively.

“I would rather die than live in this dead and forgotten land,” the rat said.

The hawk grabbed the small rat between his claws and flew high over the mountain, higher than the highest clouds; high where the air was cool and rare. The hawk took the rat to the farthest star. It was absolutely quiet except for the beating of their hearts. All the rat could think about was that it was his time to die, that he would no longer be. However, the hawk, that lonely bird, could only think about the feelings of the rat and how he was willing to die to forget all the pain and suffering the destruction of the world had brought to all living things. When they got high enough, both of them looked back and took hold of the planet with their eyes.

The rat sighed, “It looks so beautiful from up here, doesn’t it?”

The hawk said nothing.

They both floated in the immense nothingness. A long peaceful silence submerged them in thought, their minds merged into one, all their feelings combined. Both felt grateful; the Earth had given them everything they had ever wished for, all they ever dreamed of, and never asked for anything in return.

The hawk and the rat floated away from their home, until they were no more. That was their gift to Mother Earth.
