Holidays

An Epworth Christmas (1987)

A tree you chopped

A tree you trimmed

Made Christmas's of past

   extremely dim.

The wood piled high

by the pot belly stove,

was greater than

any treasure trove.

With food abundant &

fit for a King.

The "Mighty Queen"

Reigned over everything.

The French Poetry flowed

as you read.

The imagery, the iambic pentameter

depicted all; danced in my head.

I'll never forget you

nor the gift that you gave...

Your Nature, Your Beauty

in my heart...

  I Will Save.

Author's Notes/Comments:

As I sit an remember the beauty that surrounds me, And I'll never say goodbye it'll always be Later.

CHRISTMAS EVE 2000

Gifts with no names.

One of them could have been yours.

Each one, carefully picked...

Colorfully wrapped in green,

red

and gold.

Arranged beneath my tree;

their shiney paper reflecting the glow from

my candle lite room,

with hope in my heart I await,

for friends or family to drop by.

Candies, cookies, Smidgens & fudge

adorn my table, longing to be shared.

Their delicate sweetness waiting to be savored

by my anticipated visitors this Eve.

Perhaps, even a stranger,

a passerby; who has lost their way on this cold snowy Eve.

tick

tock

tick

tock

Midnight....

Wrappings still shimmer under waning candles.

What does it matter?...

Nobody knew.

If they did, then I know they would have come!

At least, for a moment.

Time fitting proper enough, for them to claim their gift

and delight over the goodies set before them.

Just enough time, to still their conscious before bidding

a quick farewell, there's things to do, an awkward hug.

And out the door.

No, none of them received their gifts this night.

Neither did I.

An unexpected vist.

A warm heartfelt greeting.

A smile of innocense,

which would hold no expectation.

Perhaps I want too much.

What does it matter?

Nobody knew.

I could store away the gifts

and freeze the goodies.

I could,...

but I won't.

These gifts were meant to be given,

to the ones I love most.

What does it matter?

They'll never know.

So, instead I'll load them upon a sled,

blow out my candles which are nearly dead,

bundle myself for a midnight walk.

Dropping these gifts at the door stoops

of those who live along my street.

People, I know least yet;

have taken time to bid me "good-day",

many times during the year past.

People who have just dropped by,

tacking a WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD NOTE.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Not what I expected.

CHRISTMAS SONG

Christmas is the time of the year

To spread all this cheers and rejoice

To heal a lot of our spiritual wounds

To bring a lot of love in the homes.

Christmas is the time of the year

To be in everything a good sports

Not just to think of presents and toys

But to sow a lot of good will and peace on the earth!

Christmas is the time of the year

Not just to think of green money

And all your credit cards how to spend

Or how many things you are lucky to get.

Christmas is the time of the year

To give to the ones that got nothing

Not even a nice place for the night

And for the ones abused day and nigh.

Christmas is the time of the year

To put God the creator first

No just that jolly made up Santa Claus

But Jesus that came and was born in that day!

Christmas is the time of the year

To think of all the big and the small

And all the homeless that got nothing to eat

And also all the children that suffer on earth.

So let's go and spread all this love and joy

Not only for the holidays or Christmas day

But for every single day of the year

Let's not forget the unfortunate and sick

For Christmas time is also for them!

Christmas Card to the Group

Christmas is the time of year

Where we are filled with holiday cheer.

Children wait in anticipation,

Of Santa's coming throughout the nation.

Of presents brought like the wisemen of old

From family members in the household.

But, is this what it is all about?

Give to those who have and not those without.

The wisemen brought gifts to a child unknown

And from this, the seeds of gift giving was sown.

But, somewhere along the way I see,

It was corrupted to mean only family.

This year I will make a change

and recapture the spirit of the manger.

My family shall get their gifts,

But a stranger's spirits I will also lift.

Strangely I feel exhilerated giving to that stranger

Much like I am sure the wisemen felt at the manger.

To give to those who have not and who ask for so little,

Makes me feel great and maybe in heaven give me aquittal.

If I had a wish on this day

No kid would be hungry and would receive toys to play.

With your help this wish could come true,

To make it so, must start with me and you.

So, please reach out beyond the family orb

And reach out to others for their burden to absorb.

Provide a stranger or an underpriveleged child with a small gift,

And you will see their spirits soar and give yourself a lift.

Merry Christmas to one and all,

And may the New Year be a ball.

Reflect back on the ones you touched this year

May their blessings on you bring good cheer.

'Cause it is the giving that will make your day

Be safe and have a very, merry, holiday.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

A CHRISTMAS WISH

~A Christmas Wish~

Christmas Spirit,

Of long ago,

Show me your face

Once more,

So I may stroll

Back again,

In my mind's eyes

To bygone days,

When I was so young

And fresh.

Sweet memories were then,

Of gingerbread houses,

Blinking lit up trees and

Eating apple pies.

Warmed up by the fire,

And the sudden kisses

Under the mistletoe.

Christmas spirit

Of long ago,

Show me that bright

Magic,

Once more.

The friendly warmth

Of an open smile,

The crackling sound of

Laughter,

Sheer and joy!

The warmth of a fireplace,

Melting snow

Everywhere.

The sweet fragrance of

Roses and cloves,

Cinnamon,chestnuts and vanilla

Candles

In the air.

Christmas wreaths,

Hanging from my front

Door.

Trails of glowing

Color lights,

To hear carols sung

Everywhere and

The mixed sounds  of tinkle bells.

Music, kids and toys,

Candy canes and wrapped presents,

Tinseled paper,

Open boxes in christmas day,

Forgotten ribbon on the floors.

And in the air still,

The scent  of fallen pines,

Tracks on the wet soiled snow

by rubber boots.

Christmas Spirit,

Of long ago

Wherever you are,

Show me your face like

You had done before,

Bring me all the love, joy and

Peace!

That so happy I can

Get.

Around the corner already,

I can hear

Your tinkling bells and

Dear and jolly Santa

Is for us now,

On his way.

A Friendly Time of the Year

A Jolly Season it's suppose to be.

A Season when a special Child was born

         for all to see.

Gifts far and near where brought

To the manger where this Child lay

          wrapped in swaddling cloth.

Give glory, praise, worship and adore.

Gifts from riches; Gifts from poor.

Not one word was spoken of reciprocity;

'Tis better to give than receive.

As I sauntered about town wearing a grin

ever so weak, for not a word

          I could speak.

Not a smile nor a nod from the peaple I would meet.

So on my way I would go...

And with "Sign" the best I can.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU and BLESSINGS

          from a fan.

Author's Notes/Comments:

As I was shopping today for food, Not a friendly person did I meet. It's a sad happening.

SANTA SLEEPS IN

OH GOD, WHAT A MESS

TOYS ALL OVER

ELVES IN THEIR PJ'S

RAINDEER PASSED OUT

MS. SANTA WITH HER HEAD IN HER HANDS

WONDERING HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD SHE DO

SO MUCH TO DO, SO LITTLE TIME

SHE HAS TO MAKE THE ROUNDS,

PACK UP THE TOYS

GET EVERYTHING TOGETHER

AND BE BACK BEFORE MORN.

IT WAS ALL LEFT UP TO HER NOW

SEE SANTA HAS THE FLU

AS DOES THE REST OF THE CREW.

RUNNING HERE, RUNNING THERE

SHE SOME HOW GETS IT ALL DONE.

WIPING SWEAT AS SHE STEPS IN THE DOOR,

WALKING STRAIGHT TO HIS BED SIDE

JUST CHECKING MAKING SURE ALL IS RIGHT

SHE FIXES HERSELF A CUP OF TEA AND LAUGHS

THINKING OF THE MORNING HEADLINE

MRS. CLAUS FILLS IN WHILE SANTA SLEEPS IN.
