Holidays

Giftwrap

The last moments of revelry finally end

The ice cubes in my glass slowly melt

Joining in silence some droplets of gin

Never tasted, intoxicated, or felt

Friends we met in surprise

Say their final goodbyes

And leave a faint spell of enchantment

And the fireplace burns gentler

With the soft scent of ember

As our joy mellows out in contentment

And though dawn may bring a brighter sun

Than human eyes ere looked upon

I know it's warmth will never compare

To the crumpled giftwrap and the memories there

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I can hear children laughing,

Playing in the cotton snow,

I can hear santa's reindeer,

Flying above, when we're below.

I smell the smell of fire wood,

Bring smiles into the family life,

I can see the happiness,

As a man shows his love to his wife.

This is the time of year,

To show happiness and love,

To your family and your friends,

Be especially to the lord above.

So hold hands with me,

And celebrate the holiday cheer,

Tonight is the holy night,

That brings us all near.

WHEN I WAS YOUNG.

Folder:
Memories of Youth

When I was young……….

We’d holiday at the seaside.

Where I’d climb the rocks,

Catch fish from the piers.

Swim in the deep blue sea.

From off sandy shores.

Though now I’m old……

We still holiday at the seaside.

I now watch my children climbing the rocks,

Though the pier’s long gone now, as are the fish.

We dare not swim in the murky brown sea,

That crashes on to a pebbly shore.

What will there be for my children’s children?

Author's Notes/Comments:

Just a thought as I looked at the changing colour of the sea off the south coast of England.
It saddened me that we just don't appreciate enough this planet we live on.

DAYS OFF

I have four days off

just can't believe it.

Wow, four days just for me

I am going to sleep late,

read and write some poetry.

I am watching the huge

Macy's parade,

many balloons, people singing,

dancing seems to be everywhere.

They are all having fun,

A thought of a Post Poems parade,

could you just see,

Jason on some huge float

just him and his computer?

Now that would really be a site

for all to see.

The boy that became the poem site genuis.

Keying in one, while Perling two.

I want to give thanks for this little dude.

Jason you have my undying friendship for all that you do.

May we all celebrate this holiday season with

safety, love and compassion.

Keep your mind open to those messages

that might just make the next poem.

FOR ALL OF YOU AT POST POEMS..........

TIME FOR THE TREE

Well here at my house it is time for the tree.

It came out of storage for the world to see.

We live in an apartment so that might be hard to do.

But I can take pictures and share them with you.

My sweetie is out cleaning so that it will look just right.

This is a small place so things tend to fit sort of tight.

He is like a man with a mission and can't be side tracked.

In his mind is drawn his simple plan of attack.

Stay out of his way while he gets this job done.

Believe me until it is finished he will be no fun.

This will be our frist Christmas spent together.

So there is no telling what might things might occur.

I look forward to the opening of gifts.

The complete transformation as his spirits lift.

He will have something special this year under the tree.

If you only knew what it was I know you would agree.

This will be one of those that makes him shake his head.

I think that I will wrap this the something bright red.

To make him wonder and spend time thinking about this.

Shit to me that is what I call Curious Christmas bliss.

A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS WISH

~A Child's Christmas Wish~

For so long, dear Santa Claus

Since I was teeny wee lass

I've heard so much about you

And always have dreams of you.

I wished for you to come

And let me see you at least once,

with you time would have stood still

then even for just a little moment.

The only thing I would asked of you

Is to fill every heart around with love,

and the whole world too with  your bountiful

joy and peace, sent from heaven all for us.

Crossing the Sound (07/03-04/76)

What a beautiful sight

the stars twinkled bright

by the full moon's light

crossing the sound

on a 4th of July night.

The Ferry skimmed

on the water's pathway

from Connecticut to New York

this one special day.

The sky came alive with

rainbows of colors

as the fireworks

filled the fare

and the booms echoed through

in remembrance of the past

of the "bombs bursting in air"

This spectacular array

I remember to this day

brings to view the message

of the 4th of July

with the words that

sing:

     "Let Freedom Ring."

Christmas Tree

Copyright 12/20/99

A Christmas tree was cut down in the wood

To grace a home as a symbol of good.

It struck me, as I watched it fall,

How like our lord it had to give its all.

As the tree gave its life to honor one so high

We celebrate Christ’s birth both far and wide.

The tree is adorned  with bulbs so bright

To represent the many races celebrating the light.

The lights, once candles, each with a flame

Represents Gods love light that will never wane.

Each ornament is hung with so much love

For our friends, family, and the one above.

And finally the Angel, at the top, for all to see

To bless this family, their friends, and this tree.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Written to my coworkers, but seems timeless.
