Dreams of Hopes Unachieved

Folder:
Sad

Why do my dreams always haunt?

My mind creates goals

I'll never achieve,

So out of the question,

I wish they would leave.

My heart set on dreams

That never come true,

I used to be happy,

I just never knew.

My eyes always searching

For my happy end,

For my fairy tale ending,

I'll have to pretend.

My life ain't no movie,

It sure ain't no book.

No princess to rescue,

But still worth a look.

No dragons to slay,

No battles to win,

Maybe it gets better,

Closer to the end.

Wish I could skip pages,

And move further on,

I guess that these hard times,

Are a sine qua non.

To all of the happiness,

Which I hope to find,

The goals and the dreams,

Which torment my mind.

Mmmmm...Sleep....

Folder:
useless

She rolled over. The sun was peeking through the crack between the window and the curtain, and staring her right in the face.  She pulled his empty pillow over her head.  'Oh no, not again...' Morning. 'There aren't enough hours in the night!' "Wake up," he says from across the room.  This isn't the first time he told her to.  She closes her eyes and concentrates on her breathing. Slowly, she lets herself fade back into sleep.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Gee. Sounds familiar. And sounds so inviting... Goodnight. This is actually my trademark.  Ask my mom, Selby, Cecilia, Adam, and anyone else who has ever had to wake me up.

I BUILD, UGONNA

(for Ugonna)

Dove:

I build, Ugonna,

a Castle of Dreams:

see it; touch it ... hear it

Listen: the music of Love lingers here

feel the satin whispers of Light

slowly searching your soul

I build this Castle

in the midst of a storm

this Castle of Silence

surrounded by the din of Darkness

Nest in its loving Loft

awaiting the Dawn

soar on the rays

of the Sun

Eagle!

Dreams

I live in a fantasyland,

Covered by beaches and sand.

No troubles here,

Nothing to fear.

I am free to roam about,

Free to scream and shout.

I have my own castle and I am king,

I am royalty, I even have a ring.

This place is happy all around,

And not a bad thought can be found.

I hate to leave this place,

And have the real world to face.

I can not run away from it,

I can not throw a fit.

I can only look forward to when I close my eyes,

And go back to my happy, sunny skies.

A Smile For Every Afterlife

                I was dealing with pain,

the first night that I met her.

I felt a melting on the air

as we spoke to tell our stories

at a party of mutual friends.

                Her mother schooled nodding head

                led the conversation easily.

                Above a long evening gown

                her words flowing effortlessly

from a pale face long since kissed.

                That night easily marked

the best time of my last two years.

                I haven't seen eyes I'd remember

or really looked for since then.

                She was ex-wife strained,

A Shallow Mind

I see a baby in its Mother's arms

Happy today, loving

But what does tomorrow hold

That warm smile will fade

But what will take its place

A time will come, it will all be ended

A hell you never dreamed of will take you in

You wonder, you can't seem to understand

You ask why, but no one will answer

My child you have sinned

Speak to me now I will listen

Lovely lady of sorrow

A pretty face, but a mind so shallow

You never even saw beyond your dreams

DARE TO DREAM

LET NOT ANYONE’S FOUR WALLS LIMIT YOUR VISION,

NOR THE CARES THAT COME EACH DAY SUBDUE YOUR DREAMS.

DISTANT SIGHTS SHOULD SPUR GROWTH,  & SOOTHE INHIBITION :

A BARRIER, CONFRONTED WILL NOT BE WHAT IT SEEMS !

NO-ONE CAN EVER STOP YOU FROM DOING YOUR OWN BEST.

NO-ONE KNOWS BETTER THAN YOU YOUR GOAL, YOUR SCHEME.

SO IGNORE THE CREEPS, THE PESSIMISTS, AND ALL THE REST ;

YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR TRYING, SO  D A R E   T O   D R E A M !!

LOOK AT YOURSELF—THE YOUNG YOU—AT A DISTANCE,

& SEE AMBITION, THE SAME STRONG URGES AS BEFORE;

THE MORE YOU LOOK, THE MORE YOU’LL SEE YOUR TRUE SELF,

FEELING LESS RESTRICTION—YEARNING TO KNOW MORE!

‘THOUGH SATISFIED, SEEK SATISFACTION ALL-THE-MORE,

& KNOW THAT FULFILLMENT COMES, NOT IN MERE PASSION,

BUT LIES IN THE ATTEMPT, THE TRYING-DESPITE-FAILURE.

FOR THE TRUTH IS: CHALLENGE NEVER EXCEEDS THE ACTION.

SO “KEEP ON TRYING”—THAT’S WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT YOU!!

YOU WON'T “FALL”, BUT CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSE TO DESCEND!!

THERE'S  L I F E  IN YOU !!  YOU'RE  O U R  INSPIRATION, TOO !!

THERE'S MORE TO WIN THAN DREAMS:

IT'S THE  D A R E

ON WHICH A DREAM DEPENDS !!!

Author's Notes/Comments:

I'VE BEEN INSPIRED BY MANY FRIENDS, WHO'VE PERFORMED AMAZINGLY WELL UNDER VERY DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES, DESPITE ALL THE "ADVANTAGES" OF OTHER SHOULD-HAVE-DONE-SPECTACULARLY-WELL PERSONS WHO ONLY DID MEDIOCRE WORK; THE DIFF. WAS IN THE DREAMS!!

Man May Dream

A man may dream a dream, &upon waking find that he was but in a dream

& nothing of the dream remains that can be found as real.  This is

FRUSTRATION

A man may dream a dream, & upon waking find that the dream

was more than just a dream, for it remains with him, causing him

to ignore his frustration, so that he goes on into his days

& into the rest of his life in pursuit of his dream.  This is

INSPIRATION

A man may dream a dream, & upon waking find that he

Was neither sleeping nor dreaming, but he has seen

what he thought could only be found in dreams.

He challenges his frustration, & applies his inspiration.  This is

IMAGINATION

A man may dream a dream, & upon waking take his dream

& his inspiration & his imagination, & go on to gain & to achieve,

& to turn the remembrance of his dream into his reality.  This is

MOTIVATION

A man may dream a dream, & when waking he may reform his ideals,

all his past efforts, any of his old plans, because his new dream

has shown him the true way to achieve & acquire

all of his fondest wishes,

all of his deepest, purest motives,

all of his dearest, sweetest ambitions. This is

ANTICIPATION

A man may dream a dream, & upon waking may approach his dream,

thinking : “This dream may be impossible; it may elude me or reject me,

but, even though it may, even though I end up with nothing, still I have tried;

but if my efforts toward my dream are successful, then I have gained

everything I have ever dreamed of”.  This is

DETERMINATION

A man may dream a dream, & when waking & approaching his dream

may find that it is not what he had so hoped that it would be, or that he is unworthy,

or that the dream is unworthy, or is not true, or the dream spurns him.  This is

REJECTION

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wondered just how many dreams I've had that died, or that came true, or were still waiting for fulfillment. After talking w a friend about the status of HER dreams, & of many others, we thought that this explanation of dream-status might be useful. I hope we are right (of course, "man" can be "woman" in any of these contexts) :

The Phone Call

Your voice, shakes my mind to attention

Coming through the phone

Crystal clear, “Hello there”

“I miss you”…”I love you”

“You are not alone”

As you continue, my heart skips a beat

“What we have is special”…”what we have is true love”

“your heart needs mine to be complete”

“ I believe you and I, are part of God’s plan from above”

Overwhelming tears of joy

Serve to silence the response

“I’m sorry we are apart”…“let’s try a new start”

“My love for you is strong”

“I love you with all my heart”

“I’ve loved you all along”

While she continues to speak, my heart starts to sing

I say to myself this prayer

“Thank you lord for bringing this Sunday morning sunshine

Into my Monday morning rain”

She continues on to say,

“I want to grow old with you”…”Dream my dreams with you”

And

“Together with prayer…let God's will show us the way”

As I look for muster to speak

I hear the telephone now loudly ringing

“Hello…”Hello”…I shout… to no avail

The silence so deafening

I fall as if I’m shot

For awake I was not

I …was only dreaming
