I am grateful for having the genes of an optimist…
and all the joy they bring…
making every day I wake up
feel like the very first day of Spring
Today the gratefulness I’m feeling
actually comes in two parts…
I’m grateful for the glasses I’ve worn since I was a child
and for being born with a hopeful heart…
Both of these work together in tandem…
helping me to see…
the multitude of miracles
stretched out in front of me
Today I’m grateful I’m still able live a life
like when I was a child dancing outside on a rainy day
smiling
laughing
arms waving freely
unafraid of getting wet
enjoying every raindrop
and ever step along the way.
Today my gratitude has it’s own unique appeal
it’s own beauty, grace and charm:
It’s knowing there is no greater happiness
than holding someone I love
safely in my arms
Today I’m grateful for being old enough
to be happy that my life has not always gone as planned..
and still young enough everyone and then to act like a child
and forget how old I truly am
I am grateful to Chronos and Philotes…
the Gods of time and affection in Greek myth
Chronos for reminding me
that time is precious
And Philotes for reminding me
that even more precious than time
is who we choose to spend time with.
I am grateful for flowers…
how they always remind me…
that for everyone I meet in life
to make room…
because a flower
does not think of competing with
exploiting
or hurting the flower next to it…
all a flower does…
is bloom.
Today I’m grateful for cupcakes…
although I know cupcakes can’t cure all the sadness on the Earth…
they do have a way of bringing a little happiness
a little joy
a little mirth…
Because
with all my years of experience I’ve come to understand…
it is difficult to be unhappy…
with a cupcake in my hand.
I am grateful for the ability to learn about others…
in a world filled with my sisters and brothers….
Because when I learn about another person…
who they are, how they live…where the dwell
It’s amazing but at the same time
I learn more about myself as well
