I am grateful for my memory…
grateful, over the years, for all the memories I have caught…
and grateful that, although time moves in only one direction,
my memory does not.
Today I’m grateful for anticipation…
that excited and happy feeling we get…
that smile that crosses our face
as we await a moment…a date in the future…
when we know something is about to take place.
It takes us back to when we were younger…
when we were little girls and boys…
when anticipation of the joy we will be feeling
was, itself, a kind of joy.
I love trees…think of all the things they give us…
all the things without them we would lack…
I only wish we humans gave the trees
as many reasons to love us back.
I am grateful for butterflies…
I adhere to the Native American point of view
that if you whisper a wish to a butterfly
there’s a good chance that wish will come true…
I’ve done this many times and I have to say…
how often I’ve been surprised…
which is great because I have a lot of wishes left…
and there are a lot of butterflies.
May you be blessed every now
to listen to nature’s call…
and follow the music of a stream
until you discover a waterfall….
to sit there for a while
and forget about everything….
as the only sound you hear
is how the flowing water sings.
I am grateful for sunflowers….
for not only are they bright…
but they remind me to stand tall and strong
and in any situation…to do my best to find the light.
Today I am grateful for understanding the beauty of each raindrop.
as they fall on to the mountains, the rivers and the plains…
and how when all the raindrops come together…
they add their the beauty of the rain.
And I can only hope that one day we will al understand the beauty of each human
The beauty in the way each one of us is designed…
and how when all the humans come together
we add our beauty to humankind.
I am grateful every now and then…for a little while
when I’m in close enough proximity…so see birds when they smile…
I’ve seen them smile…
as the sit in our bird feeder…
when they just happen by
when they’re perched upon a tree branch singing
and in that brief but wonderful moment just before they fly
Today I’m grateful for understanding my importance in the continuum of life…
my place in the spectrum of happiness and peace…
and knowing no matter how old I grow
my importance will never diminish or cease.
Because every generation inherits a world it did not create…
and to that world must add more love, acceptance and laugher
as that generation become the guardians…the trustees
of the generation…coming after.
