Tropical Release

Folder:
2008 Poetry

Tropical sunsets are simply divine,

sizzling the sun as it drops in the sea.

Standing on the shore inhaling the brine,

walking in the sand while barefoot and free.

Fair weather clouds waltzing across the sky,

the light ocean breeze dancing on my chest.

These glorious views make me breath a sigh,

living easy no longer on a quest.

Enjoying my life as was meant to be,

away from the stresses my life has seen.

Clearing clutter and removing debris,

no longer spiteful and feeling obscene.

Needing no more to wallow or pretend,

I’m following my dream to my life’s end.

Grand Old Icon

Grand Old Icon

I’ve always seen it waving in the breeze,
that grand old icon of a country loved.
Sure it has changed slightly over the years,
stars added as a beloved nation grew.

We look upon it with feelings of pride,
resolving to keeping its spirit true.

Sadly there have been times when frustration
caused some to use it to show their dissent.
Lighting it to flame so it burned crimson,
as blood spilled in wars that were rejected.

Holy Spark

Folder:
2008 Poetry

Life forces churn in the darkness of space,

souls of those that are yet to be breathed on.

Energy swirling, waiting for an embrace,

causing a spark and then a life to dawn.

Lovely waves of light in constant motion,

each one moving along the path of white.

Floating as though in an endless ocean,

before his holy breath lets us take flight.

Then our journey begins to move forward,

as the life gift transcends the darkened void.

As if the creator pulled the holy lanyard,

causing our life’s spirit to be employed.

Free will then takes us from his mighty grasp,

and it’s up to us ‘til our dying gasp.

Wrong Way Out

Wrong Way Out

Shot and left for dead in a dark alley,

cold water puddling around my corpse.

Never saw the fired round that hit me,

nor the son of a bitch who did me wrong.

Thought I would never end my days this way,

cold and clammy on the wrong side of town.

Always thought I would be gray and older,

with amends in place so I felt secure.

Going out with warmth and feelings of joy,

instead of hate and vengeance in my mind.

Mickey the Destroyer

Mickey the Destroyer

Happiness coming to a drastic end,

as Mickey Mouse turns to destroy us all.

People screaming on Main Street USA,

as the raging fires burn uncontrolled.

Laser beams fired from each of his ears,

as sculls are crushed from his evil mouse hats.

Rockets of death launched from tomorrow land,

killing all those who paid to gain entry.

Red hues filling the parks horizon,

as the end of days looms from paradise.

Long Ago Dreams

Long Ago Dreams

Artwork from millennia inked on stone

by people past, struggling to survive.

Living in caves from fear of the unknown,

by feeling pain they knew they were alive.

Crushed berries for ink and twigs for a brush,

smeared on the walls by the light of a fire.

Storming outside they could hear the wind rush,

while spreading strokes before they would retire.

People, feet and game they would sketch and draw,

as well as odd designs laid over color.

Telling stories portraying what they saw,

in endless detail smaller and smaller.

Endless dreams of man from ages ago,

left by our ancestors by a campfire glow.

Heartbreak

2008 Poetry

Heartbreak

Red haired woman in a bed of colors,

dreaming of sensations wantonly craved.

Deepest longings of tempting watercolors,

steaming desires have left her enslaved.

Laying sad on her blankets of desire,

aching for the man who has left her still.

Burning deep inside as if on fire,

tears flowing freely from this bitter pill.

It will take awhile to get over him,

weeping nightly seeming out of control.

Aches of heartbreak traveling every limb,

no one to hold her tender and console.

Until she realizes he’s just a turd,

not worth the agony she has incurred.

Lego Land

Lego Land

Lego Land is small and really tiny,

with plastic people shrunk and frozen still.

Glad they can’t talk for they would be whiny,

loud and forever screaming with a shrill.

Visiting their museums would be a trip,

with silly artwork hanging on the walls.

We would go through it quickly in a blip,

while walking up and down their little halls.

Wonderful shiny pieces all connected,

in amazing shapes that were injected.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The Sonnetina

This form is a shortened version of the Sonnet. It contains just 10 lines, and is comprised of two quatrains and a couplet. The couplet can be placed either after the two quatrains, or between them. As it is a shortened Sonnet I think the longer lines of pentameter should prevail. If the variation of the closing quatrain is used, the volta appears after the couplet, which acts as a kind of middle ground between the two quatrains. The rhyme scheme for the quatrains can be envelope or alternating (a,b,b,a, or a,b,a,b,) or they can be unrhymed.

Abduction

Folder:
2008 Poetry

Abduction

Children sad and lost stapled to a wall,

muffled together so we can’t hear them bawl.

Crying for all to hear their crimson plea,

bleeding together praying to be free.

Taken by those who have no earthly soul,

with hearts cold and black whom we can’t control.

Preying on the legacy which is ours,

ripping them away and leaving us scars.

Tears of humanity lost to the dark,

taken mercilessly by these earth bound shark.

Predators trolling the streets of our towns,

quietly going about their cruel rounds.

We must band at once and take up the cause,

Saving our children without giving pause.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The Couplet Sonnet

As the name suggests this variation is comprised solely of rhyming couplets. The rhyme scheme is self apparent. There is no discernable volta, but that can be left to the writer's discretion.
