A commentary on abuse and complicity. Overbearing and controlling people seek passive partners and vice versa. The "box" in the first stanza was a house. The "box" in the second stanza was her mind. And the "box" in the last stanza was a coffin. The irony of the last two lines was the reason for the title, since a coffin is the final and most feared type of box.
I wrote this thinking of the poor and forsaken members of our society, ravaged with hopelessness and bowed down in spirit. I wonder if we, you, and I, the more fortunate ones, have all done our fair share in alleviating their sufferings and miseries.
This was the first poem I ever wrote. I wrote it for a newsletter of a camp I was in, figured I'd write something about the future since that's what the camp focused on. I was 13.
