The Fall Ball

Flora and Isabella trees conspired with their mother

.. what gowns would they wear for the fall ball?

They made sure Cinderella spruce

received no invitation.

She had only 1 dress.

Time flowed on. The ball was gone..

Now lay ashen

their woven fashions.

Only Cinderella

had clothes

as autumn came to a close.

Birds hid in her branches

Deer sheltered from rain beneath

her boughs.

And daily at dawn

she was kissed by the solar king

as he appeared in her chamber.

Footnote:

To my mother who had no time for writing or travel or movies.. She would rise at 5 to take care of our father who was bedridden with Parkinson's.. pack lunches, go off to teach school, come home and do house work, falling into

bed at 11. But there were no Flora's, Isabella's or wicked stepmothers in her life. She was blessed with many faithful friends and cherished siblings.

The first version of this is somewhere.

An absolutely exquisite way

An absolutely exquisite way to pay homage to the regal evergreen that shelters the deer and the birds when the pageantry of fall has faded to gray. Such a gorgeously crafted analogy that ends with a stunning personification: "She was kissed by the solar king" Loving this creation!
