Too Much of a Good Time

Your smile across the room washed me away

Like mighty waves do unsuspecting sand.

I bet you’re master of all you survey

And well understand how to play your hand.

Why not casually cross the room

And coolly appraise all the pretty young things,

Sampling the wine and cheap perfume

As I'm left in the corner to count the rings?

But as the night falls and minutes turn to hours

You’re fated to find the limits of your powers.

You had too much of a good time,

Too much of a good time -

Oh, I’m sure you partied on.

You had too much of a good time,

Too much of a good time,

And returned to find me gone.

My eyes shined like beacons on the bay,

Yours looking back forming circles of light,

But hubris led you to move away,

Sure I’d be there at the end of the night.

Stories could be told of your luscious skin –

My heart raced as it gleamed in the moonlight –

But what I learned of the contents within

Couldn’t be enough to make sparks ignite.

You exalted yourself, perched on a throne.

After last call we'll each go home alone.

You had too much of a good time,

Too much of a good time -

Oh, I’m sure you partied on.

You had too much of a good time,

Too much of a good time,

And returned to find me gone.
