Where Were You

Where were you when the glitter filled my eyes,

My body and soul untouched by the dark,

When innocence made me fail to realize

That wisdom would swoop in and steal their spark?

Where were you when I looked good each morning,

Hair and skin glowing with the rising sun,

When I was still naïve to the warning

Time was a specter I could not unrun?

Where were you when I believed love stories,

My heart pounding with romantic notions,

When I felt sure I’d share in their glories

And not once merely went through the motions?

Now you’re here and I ask what’s left of me,

Longing for the sweet one I used to be.
