cheap plastic ring

I got a cheap plastic ring in my chest pocket,

you gave it to me as a bad joke,

I got a handful of these little trinkets,

every memory compressed in the back of my head.

When I am getting dark you remind me of our goals,

you make me feel like a religious man,

clinging to some plastic ring as if it was a crucifix.

I always have this ring,

I always keep you closest to my heart.

I am back at the start reminding myself be bold,

underlining my favorite parts of books,

two years 100 poems later,

still have not stopped smoking but so much has changed.

Just ring that bell and this impossible astronaut will find his way around,

I don't dream about the forest any more but one more time would be nice.

I got a cheap plastic ring,

I don't keep it a secret always fooling around with it in public.

I got a fist full of hope,

a pocketful of dreams that I will never let die.

Maybe tomorrow I will throw away my pack of smokes

but if I don't I wont cry,

because it keeps me constantly outside

even when one would not normally brave the wild.

Congrats on the hundredth

Congrats on the hundredth poem, may there be hundreds more. This is well written. I like how you've taken a plastic ring and treated it like a keepsake never to be let go. I've done this too, with items others would say are trivial, but their memories are worth more than gold.

Long days and pleasant nights
