Wooden Heart

Look at this heart!

It's not stone, yet.
Isn't fragile like glass,
Strong as steel,
Made of gold,
Or a precious gem.

It's wooden, it's simple
And easily forgotten.

Sand it smooth, put
Your stain upon it.
Nail it on your wall.
Admire it when you
Choose, let it gather
Dust to your liking.

Beat it hard enough,
Long enough and it
Will break. It can
Only be mended so far.
Burn it into ash,
Rot it under water
Until there's nothing.

If you want, carve
Your name here it
won't fade away. I'll
Take it wherever I go.

hum.

I personally find wood far more attractive than metals or jewels. Durable, strong, rough or polished.

Wooden Heart

"Sign your name across my heart..." This poem is so interesting; the definition of a heart - and why it is not clichéd. Wood works! and rocks - Enjoyed especially the last line, a real clencher that ties the gift up neatly with bow and tag - :D - Lady A
