Love, the layered thing, indeed. We can truly care for someone, and care for them greatly, but not necessarily in the role that they may desire, or that we might once have desired to play.
It's a tough line to walk, to step back from one type of love while staying in another, and one your former partner may not embrace now, or perhaps ever (though that may change over time). Still, to offer it is to truly care. Your writing is not just good, but timely in regard to thoughts on my mind. Thank you.
