The melancholy world melts away

and the fingertips of death caress

void, an insufferable moment,

a timeless terror trickling torture...

The whole poem is eerie, and its brevity works so well to that effect, especially the verbal contours of that final line!  Your poems remind me of one of my favorite poets, J. V. Cunningham, who made brevity an art form.

At 70

Considering all the possibilities. Too many smiles and the laughter segues to let melancholy stay around. So much death surrounds us, so much soon, like always.

Metaphorical death, real demise - I get those mixed up.
