Whiffs of moisture laden air

Damp trousers, soaking brollies

Waterlogged tramway tracks

Dirty stream flowing down alleys

Incessant rains,leaking homes

Rain-washed clean tree leaves

Daytime darkness lights switched on

Fresh brewed tea ,hurried shaves

School children happy indoors

Office goers stranded,woes outdoors

Dainty ladies' powdered cheeks

Gazing skyward fearing more downpours

Cuddling in cozy warm beds

Thumbing through music on cellphones

Savouring piping hot"khichdi" at noon

Onion cutlets, "hilsa" fry ,.. no bones

Hoping the next morn the bright sunshine

Again the cacophony of the city bustle

Brought to a grinding halt for two days

Kolkata's citizens how well you grapple!
