STAR

I would be constant as you are,

and merely twinkle in night's roiling black,

a shining my oath on earth afar.

as there we lovers might in pact

both look and wish and promise past desire,

our two hearts blended, faith and passions pure,

and Love as constant as our star.

Oh, endless years in sand-glass are!

Slow-meted time, slow-flowing ink, and blank

the pages, 'til our two hearts share,

poured freely from depths of heart where sank

Love's arrows from the quiver on Cupid's back.

Sweet ceremony seals Fate, Eternity, and more,

and Love as constant as our star.

Now rises mystery, not far:

one flame two lives has lit in dire attack

against old loneliness, to bar

intrusive Time or jealousy alike,

and fend against all foes both strong and meek,

confronting all, devotion and ardor,

and Love as constant as our star!

First-joys, first-highs in love will all come back.

In sheer delight we choose to grow and share.

With love we'll draw the stars down from their black,

and bask in joy, such lovers that we are!

     In love all more and more, no joy we lack;

we love with love as constant as our star.
