Why Do So Many People Mis-understand Me ??

I am firm, but I am gentle,

& sometimes many think I’m too soft,

but never too hard!!

I make few demands, &--while I may be VERY insistent

in those demands—

they are quite easily met.

Some of the world’s most beautiful art,

music, & literature have been created

because of me;

That’s because of how very noble

I made some people feel in their

kinder, most loving

inspirations.

I am one of the most intimate parts

of every generation;

I am always the first thing

verified

at birth;

I am at first the most benign thing

on earth, to most;

but I often become

brutish & borish,

by my improper use;

Yes, some of earth’s most gruesome tragedies,

awful wars, terrible injustices,

& personal horrors

have been my fault,

because of my misuse;

for some find me difficult

  to keep under control.

Yes, I am the very best part of love,

but I am the very worst part of hate.

I am part-origin of all

the peoples of earth; yes,

I must claim both

the ugly &

the beautiful,

although I can only take credit

or blame for ½ the

initial efforts.

I am part of Bach & Beethoven

& The Beastie Boys,

but not of Madonna

or Mother Theresa

or Garbo.

I am part of Hitler & Stalin

& Bin Ladin ,

but not of Britney

or Dianna

or Oprah.

Although I am very strong-willed

I find  most happiness & fulfillment

when  under someone else’s control.

I am part of Nostradamus’s predictions,

but not of Miss Cleo’s.

I am part of Bogart,

but not of  Bacall.

My design is one of God’s masterpieces;

my misuse by man brings

the devil’s

most awful

destruction.

My presence can be felt

in every nursery in every hospital

on earth, but I have also helped to fill

every grave in every cemetery of earth.

Why don’t more people understand me?

I’m only doing my job!

To know me is to love me:

I am a penis.

I don't know what this says about ME, but I knew what you were talking about in the lst line!!! I didn't find it funny; I took it very serious actually. I think it is true.. and it is well done. I guess your poem is akin to the Vagina Monologues?? LOL...

Well Teddy, what can a girl say! At first I thought "it" was religion, but man did you hit the nail on the head (no pun inteaded, well maybe ;D) You are so very right!! A perfect point as to why we need more women in powerful, political positions. But hey, I'm a big fan of the big P., despite personal horrors and injustices inflicted by him/them. Like the saying goes - Can't live with 'em, Can't live without. I look forward to reading more of your works so that I too can experience "inexpected joys and affirmations" at your hand. Keep up the good work!
