PINK NIGHTGOWN

We found it in her dresser drawer

when we went to clean her home

it was still wrapped up in tissue

in the box there all alone

A pretty little pink night gown

all trimmed with fancy lace

she had bought it there at Wal-Mart

and she kept it 'just in case'

She had kept it now for several years

for she said if she got sick

she'd have a bright new little night gown

and she wouldn't have to pick

But last week she went to heaven

she died there in her sleep

and my sis and I have come back home

to find some things to keep

It doesn't seem like Momma's place

for from the kitchen there's no smell

there's no sweet scent of cookies baking

the ones she made so well

the silence here is erie

for I hear the ticking of the clock

and the movement of her old chair

in the breeze that makes it rock

There's no smiling face to greet us

as she would open up the door

tthere's no smell of fresh cut flowers

there's no varnished, clean mopped floor

Now we're going through her dresser things

which seem to be quite few

and that little fancy night gown

taking up so little space

Oh I can picture her the day she bought it

with a smile upon her face

and I can still here her sayong

now girls, I haven't got so very much

but divide it up real equal

the jewelry,  books and such

and here's the new pink nighty

for if I ever have to go

just give it to the charge nurse

for I might be feeling kind of low

But Momma didn't need it

as she went home really quick

and it was still there in the paper

for she never did get sick

and her life now all is over

and I'm feeling sad and down

but I'v got that little box of tissue

that holds her pink night gown

Alas Respected Ms Sunmaiden

Alas Respected Ms Sunmaiden!! Yeah.... all possessions however dear  have to be left behind as people leave for "Home" from an earthly "Home".... Some leave gracefully others disgracefully !!!! Bereavement is awfully sad... Agreed. Heartfelt sympathies. There is the 3rd generation who will breathe fresh hope.
