Celtic Rite

Celtic:  the girls in long-hemmed dresses, boys

in polo shirts and khaki slacks, and all

of them, barefoot, gather upon the green

and blooming, well trimmed meadow in between

the small town and (beyond it) private farms

(safe from commercial greed and urban sprawl,

inevitably fraught with covert harms).

They listen, with the most expressive pleasure,

as poems are read aloud.  Each verse deploys

across the contour of the ancient measure.

Some of them have been here for several hours.

Some wander, hand in hand, among the flowers.

Neither debris nor hidden obstacles

lurk there to injure grass-stained toes or soles.

No chaired, nor crowned, awards bring competition

to soil this Celtic Rite's pristine condition.

Considerations

Often such a setting creates new legends of it's own, the effect of new "meetings" with the Daoine Sith. Enjoyed your work.
