My Friend

Secular Poetry

I was lost and alone for so long

Standing on the brink of insanity

When God brought you into my life

An answer to this young woman's prayers-

You took my hand and pulled me back

Restored my faith and gave me strength.

I was hurt and broken,

Tears falling like rain, drenched to the core

Lying weak and empty on that stone-cold edge;

Then you came and helped me stand, helped me heal.

You gave me the sweetest gift of all-

The gift of your friendship.

And despite these long miles between us

A part of my soul will ever be with you.

I know I may be far away,

But just as you were there in my time of need

I too will always be here for you;

Whenever you're hurting and need someone

Whenever you feel weak and empty inside

I'll be here to comfort you

Draw strength from me-

I'll do the best that I can

To restore your faith, to help you heal

And dry your tears, put a smile back on your face-

All you have to do is call my name

And I will be there.
