Patience

PEEPING THROUGH PICKETS

Through the pickets
peep the pink roses
and purple peonies
.. their roots are fixed
by their loved ones
but their fragrance
and light
soar to the stars

**
(to Elisa S whose garden inspired

this.. she was taken to safety by 1

of the Kent State 4 just before he

died)

MANGO MANNA

The mango tree manifests
to woman and mankind
her manna gradually
.. and gently

MOTHER BIRD BE AT PEACE

Sweet little Mother Bird

why worry?
don't hurry
don't scurry
no flurry

Your babies.. they are safe.

IMPATIENS ARE PATIENT

Impatiens
are often patient
.. waiting for
a brighter day.
Impatiens
blooms
woven on the
sun's vast looms

are not annuals
she found when she
.. brought them
in from the cold
.. and saw they
were perennials

SPIDER WEB

He waited til winter
to help clean up
the woods ..
rather than disturb
the spider web
in the trash tire

LOOKING FOR IT

I know God gave me
patience..
I have been looking
for it..
near where I lost it

EVERYONE IS PERFECT

Why do I mind more
the unripeness in others and me
than I mind
the green fruit on a sweet tree?

Not until God's
appointed hour
will fruit be beesweet
and not be sour

***
BIRDS ON A WIRE

Birds sit watching
from the theatre's brick
parapets
waiting for me to
finish eating and feed
them the rest

AWAKENING

Mother Earth has
begun to respond
to the awakening
gentle nudges
of the longfingered sun
as the people of the earth
are responding
to the awakening of
their powers of selfrule.

PATH OF PATIENCE

Some enter
God's realm
through the gate
of generosity
others the portal of
peace..
still others the door
of discipline
or the arch of ahimsa
She attracted what
she resisted..
ingoing through
the passage of patience

ICE LOSES TO SUN

The ice is melting below
but still treacherous on the
surface.
Said one:
Wait for sunclocks
to open icelocks.
A second advised
to go slowly on the ice.
A third .. with the aura
of the sun..
melted each obstacle
as he went forth.

SWEET REFRAIN

The quiet fall
of the rain
.. dripping
merciful refrain
.. bringing peace
peace peace
in its train

--------

Ramana Maharshi's ashram fed first the animals, then beggars, then visitors, then residents, and finally the guru. * The Torah says to feed animals before humans. *
