He Hated Nature

He hated sweeping blossom petals
and raking bright autumn leaves
and he was very much afraid
of the nectar loving bees.

*

So he cut down cherry trees
scythed down a mighty grove
And all the vines which round trunk grew
Of time he spent a fortune.

*

He now had plastic roses
vinyl tulips styrene orchids
in the barren garden of
his sterile orkin nation.

 *

He vacuumed his sidewalks

paved over his lawn

no dandelion

 dared raise her head

no weed ventured to spawn

*

He had no 'bare ruined choirs'
for he had no choirs at all.
And birds to neighbors' flocked
to stage their orchard orchestrations.
