Hearbeat

Another footstep on this journey of life, knocking against wood so hard and strong,

The patter of feet across my soul, yet set of footprints? There was only one,

Set in sands across the floors, boards torn up to hide my wrongs,

Laid like bodies, a murderer shy, I finished then, though just begun,

Started to understand this heart, diving deep into the fire,

The beat tempted the flame to grow, igniting yet more pain and grief,

Burned myself in my passion and fury, out of control and growing wild,

I lay down now, dragging the sands up around me, hiding beneath,

Just another victim of this heartbeat, so careless and raw,

Another mistake I must disguise, among the fields of darkness and death,

Because I was fooled by my own desire, I know now what I saw,

Another dying body, another soul drank dry, now laying down to rest.
