"Answer"

by Jeph Johnson

I ask

expecting
a reply of demise
and receive returns
as undiscerned
expressions in her eyes,
then fall decimated,
while elated,
into an abyss
of deep blue pools
that ridicule
questions such as this...
still I try
but cannot lie
when tears well this deep,
almost drowning
in a sound
that once put me to sleep.
she taunts
my response
but then lowers her lash
and does a double-take
to the mistakes
I continue to rehash.
I make revisions
to the decisions
I'd made while underneath
the spell she cast
and then contrast
the truth with make-believe.

i think this poem says a lot about love and the lies that sometimes are entwined in with it ..how deception can be hidden to blind eyes
