If we just sat together for a while

I'd search your soul and find your smile

You look so warm in your denim overalls

Pink socks and sneakers dangling from the wall

Rocking back and forth in fading light

Ever rolling playfully and dreaming of tonight

Long thick hair swaying and framing your face

In your girlish smile the years are erased

You leap to the ground and extend your arms

Dusk reflects off your necklace charm

You wrap a little child in your embrace

Pulling him close with no empty space

Dancing gently over hopscotch chalk marks

Watching with wonder the firefly sparks

I tenderly touch your shoulder

With my other hand on your waist

The ocean sparkles and grows colder

We sway as the Beach Boys CD plays

Vanilla Coke foaming in pitchers

Clusters of friends posing for pictures

Hot dogs and buns on barbecue grills

The air is warm and the wind is still

I look in your eyes so wide and delighted

Your laughter is sweet and so excited

With you I'm gentle as I can be

Like a porcelain doll I hold you gingerly

As we dance silhouetted against the water

I'm mindful that you're God's daughter

I like to walk with you in and out of arcades

Chewing steaming pretzels and sipping lemonade

Wearing friendship bracelets and novelty rings

The precious pleasure of hearing you sing

The plastic teddy bears you snap on to your hair

Whipping light sticks in the aromatic air
