COLLOQUIAL SCHOLAR

'Colloquial Scholar'
unto the masses
you've writ and performed
beautifying a dreary world indeed
with your many variations of
clever word form
master of your time
cloaked in a name
that likely was not even yours
your words through the ages though
have been lent to many an idea born
many a mouth has performed your
articulate swain
many a lover has quoted
lines you penned in love's longing
a lot less plain
unto many a harbor yet to even be lit
you remain a reliable torch light
one can pick up quick
without your words
I dare say we would have grown up
in a world without emotional clothes
but you provided more than that
you offered us a king's abundant robes
colorful and fanciful
with beautiful buttons and elaborate bows
unforgettable in their lavish decree
why the angels in heaven must surely
put on your plays of pleasure so brilliantly
a long long life your words have lived
far, far beyond that for which your frail
human body was equipped
from the tedium of life I stand up to raise
my glass
long, long live on the Bard and his 16nth century
rap................

Author's Notes/Comments:

Was thinking about the wonder of the many works of William Shakespeare and this poem came to me.

Lovely and witty celebration of the literary accomplishment of the bard Shakespear. Liked your poem very much.

Nice words for the Late Bard of Avon

He lives on and will live forever in our textbooks....
