PONDERING THE ACTS OF THECKLA AND PETER

saint or myth
heretic or apostle's muse
mismatched texts
dismissed long ago
by the church
a feminist in ancient times
just doesn't seem to fit
celibacy for all until
The Glorious return
impossible standards
for any human to live up to
humanity could not survive
for more than that generation
if such mass devotion
could be summoned and procured
in that one particular regard
my better sense and
faith set aside any possible
profound truth to the validity
of such canonical
even with Peter's own glorious
name attached
staunch feminism and mass
celibacy expected on the
people of that time
just doesn't seem to mesh
as true spiritual teaching
with the populations of
that time
but more so be a rather
isolated branch of some
radical sect that aimed
to attract women
as a twisted form of
self empowerment................

Author's Notes/Comments: 

I watched on the History channel the other day a documentary about the lost books of the Bible and one was titled The Acts Of Theckla and Peter. I found the contents and how the Church made the final decision not to include them in the final version of accepted books of the Bible quite fascinating. This poem was born of that program's watching and my own subsequent extensive pondering on their decision as well.

A Shocking Surprise

When I got to the end, I was going Haaah! She did not go there. So brave and sharp minded enough to call a spade a dimond if men interfered and made the world believe it was a spade afterall. - 3000 something more to go - why no comments. Greateness and scholarship b here - Lady A

'Greatness and Scholarship be here' great line............ you truly humble me.... If you enjoy religious content there is a poet on here. I believe his id is corleusent or corleusant (I just saw his id on the other day so I know he still contributes) and he writes some very thought provoking stuff, but if I am wrong on on the spelling of his id please don't shoot the misinformed messenger (laughs) again thanks so much.........M.
