BLUE RAINCOAT

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

discarded
haphazardly shed
a slick rubbery locust shell
formerly assigned
protective outer layer
to small fragile skin
abandoned in haste
for the giggling embrace
of a warm fall afternoon
of frolicking on a sunny day
at the local playground
that tiny 'Blue Raincoat'
looking back at me so crumpled
and forlorn
tangible proof
that its owner is
a blessing surrounded by love.............

Author's Notes/Comments:

something I saw not long ago while strolling by a playground. That tiny blue raincoat and what love filled, bubbling little tyke it must belong to and in that moment as I gazed out at all those ecstatically happy preschoolers playing, I wondered which one of them must he or she be who discarded that adorable little raincoat to dart off to play on the swings, the teeter totters or the jungle gyms. What amazing energy that tiny rain coat hugs itself to when that is it is not being shed for warmer day pursuits. It was these thoughts that tumbled around in my head and transfixed the poet in me.
