her name is America

and she is ageless and ever so lovely

ask anyone in her proud fifty states

and with me I'm sure they will agree

with her loving arms open wide

through the gates of Ellis Island

by the boat load they came

with hearts longing for a better life

and tired eyes cast hopefully towards

Liberty's fierce flame

you don't really know until you go to

or away from her

just what one would miss

I feel no one but a true American could

really know this

whether he is legal or not

she is the faithful bride of freedom

the only real one that this world's got

so hold your Yankee head high

when yet another one of her birthdays

passes by

for what would life as we know it today

have to give

if the colonists had never left

the overbearingness and taxes of England

to come here and attempt a new life

to live..............................
