FIGURATIVE PALEONTOLOGIST

JOURNAL # 41

I was nearly devastated
I didn't date the scrap
and a singularly particular
moment in time
was incorrectly cataloged
mangled contortions in the mind
revealed to me
a future need for payment of
closer attention to smaller details
here it is October now
a New Year's Resolution must be
added to the fraying list
harboring such hiccup
is but a stone thrown thrice
while drunk on hind sight
little comes of
such anti climax
mistakes are children of choices
we once only had mere moments
to make
it's who we are in the blurry aftermath
though that has to reconcile with
the injurious outcome
buck up

life was created on

the backs of
too often repeated mistakes...........

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is a collision of two endeavors. I realized not long ago I'd lost ( when in reality it was only temporarily misplaced) a piece of a poem I wanted to save to finish at another more creatively advantageous time and my having watched a documentary on PBS I believe about the excavation of a woolly Mammoth. Hence this poem was cast to be born.
