The sun rose, 

and the dawn birds sounded their best, then,

and until you opened your eyes and smiled

the day kept its offerings secret

like an unbroken fortune cookie

full of diamond words

and ancient wisdom

left near the edge

of a Chinese restaurant table

with a two-dollar tip on it.
