My Best Friend

When I was but a tiny girl

I felt so lost, alone.

I had a loving family.

The lack was quite my own.

The other smaller children

Seemed to fill my Momma's arms,

So I would slip to the piney wood

And succumb to its charms.

I made a playhouse, raked back straw,

Outlined the rooms with stones,

Canned sweet grasses in chipped jars,

Midst the wooded creaks and groans.

I played for solitary hours

Without another soul.

Yet with a quiet Presence,

Who made me feel more whole.

I spoke aloud to my Special Friend.

Companions were we two.

I never learned His Name or face,

But all my hurt HE knew.

I made a table from a board

I placed upon two rocks.

The chairs were sawed off pieces

From railroad timber blocks.

We dined on giant poplar leaves.

We sipped from maypop cups.

I served pretend "hot coffee",

And "dainties", hickory nuts.

The years have sped away since then,

But my friend and I still meet.

I find that He is with me,

In my waking hours or sleep.

For the Solace that I met there

In my fragrant piney wood,

Was Almighty God, Creator.

And OH!  My God is good.

He never has forsaken.

He holds my trembling hand.

As long as He is with me,

I never lack a friend.

Friends come and go, as we both know.
But the best ones are here to stay.
Good job, Jessica.

This is just beautiful! I did much the same thing when I was a child. I lived on a small farm in the country and there were no playmates for me to play with.

I would sit in my swing and look into the sky and talk to someone there, not knowing that I was really talking to God Almighty. He was always there for me then and has remained here for me all of these years.

I love what you are doing with your work. The pictures are beautiful! I can barely hear the music now that I have changed to my computer. My husbad just called and is on his way home so I will have him try to figure out what is going on.

This reminded me of my childhood Jessica. Two small little girls, in different parts of the country, to meet years latter and be reminded of the love God has for his children both young and old. You are so very right! God is Good!

Love,
Lesa

Jessica,
The make-believe world of a child is sometimes more real that anyone would ever imagine. Glad to know your Friend stuck to you and you to Him. When all else fails all we are left with is faith.
