Quandary

I don't know why you want me...

I only have half a heart since you stole the rest.

I can't imagine where we're going...

Rudderless vessels, castaways, bereft.

Nothing helps me think my way through

This maelstrom we've both created from desire.

Everywhere I go I look for you,

Seeking solace and reprieve from your blessed blazing fire.

I could not give description of your face nor frame nor clothes,

But I could tell much more of you than anyone who knows you knows.

I've seen the strength that's fared the storms

When life has left its harshest marks.

I'm witness to the gentleness that skims my soul

When I whisper your name into the dark.

I've read the diary of your mind

As it scrawled its pen through miles into my home.

And I've determined you're sublime

To ease my sorrow and lift the grief of being alone.

I may not know what breakfast you had or where you'll sup tonight,

But I know your thoughts, your precious voice,

And what learning you, loving you feels like.

I seem to recognize this one from a "prior life". Is it the same one, I wonder? (Thank you for reposting it. Time heals most wounds, and you know how I feel about Love's scars.) If it is, then you already know my reply / critique. What a lovely heart you express, my dear Jessica. May it always be safe and beloved. Tu jours, m.c.

"Poe" I'm not, nor "Rich" am I,
but I'll be famous, b'ye and b'ye !

Douglas Lazard's picture

Jessica, This is a most beautiful and heartfelt piece of work. I am guessing that is is possibly about an online friend... I may be wrong.
Whatever and/or whoever it was written for, has surly brought forth from your heart a very remarkable and romantic poetic picture of longing and understanding.
I am quite impressed with your talent!
Peace and love ~~~~ Dougie ~~~
