In darkness
I lay restless
As if waiting
For something
That alludes
My awareness
As if a faint melody
I can't quite make out
But still somehow
It sticks with me
Calling
Haunting
And alluring
My senses
The more I try to sleep
The more my soul
It grows restless
And starts screaming
As if fighting
The very darkness itself
The melody
Growing louder now
Surrounding me
As if trapping
But what it wants
I know not
I cover my ears
But it comes now
From within
What to do
I know not
Where to even begin
The room it starts to spin
As I open my mouth to scream
Suddenly I awake
It was just a dream
Breathing a sigh
Of relief
And no longer restless
I find comfort now
In the stillness
Of the morning
Smiling as I finally
Find my silence
Poetry
One sees in this poem that you really can write beautiful, insightful sensitive poetry. Why wast you time on protest songs when you can write this kind of poetry. Oh well. Just my opinion. However, there is a deep compliment in tha comment.
Thank you
The protest songs are my way of fighting back against and coping with the world as it is today. To be fair I didn't know I could write something like this until I just randomly did one night out of nowhere and would love to write more like it. I am very proud of this poem and I am really glad you liked it too. I agree that the protest stuff has gotten a bit much and would like to focus on other things that said unfortunately there is no shortage of things protest wise to write about and the words come to me as they will not as I will. Whatever words want to be written get written.
