CUT TO SHREDS

CUT TO SHREDS

Once again this turgid world is becoming confused. Oh

The fabric of the world is laced with much confusion, and

This is the progression of professors becoming professorial.

The man who invented the blade forced the surgeon to dissect

Us with his scalpel; our ways of bring order is always cutting.

It was Dr. Guillotine who brought neatness to beheading.

Tactical nuclear weapons are used in surgical strikes and now

Pre-dawn lateral insertions are euphemisms for invasions. The

Moses of all this confusion never takes us to the promise land.

The beaver is an excellent engineer of dams; like us his teeth

Is cutting.  Like us, his logic is to stop the flow of nature, but

The eddies and whirlpools of confusion plague him too.

The owl’s eyesight is keen as a knife and this is how he becomes

Owlishly wise and he can almost turn his head completely around.

For his and our perspicuity, all we can do is cut and slash.

Job could not understand why such sorrow had befallen him.

He had cut out a reality that he thought was a righteous way.

His was a house divided by so many rooms of confusion.

Who are we to rely on our own understanding; days and nights

Are divided without our doing?  Where were we when everything

Was reasoned out from the beginning before we cut it to shreds.
