Just A Joke

Folder:
Oldies

She was always a happy child,

Loved sports and had friends that stood by her side.

She had a carefree feeling about her,

As many kids do,

Everything she did, she did with pride.

She never thought that anything bad could happen,

Why would anyone want to hurt her?

She had no idea how harsh people could be,

It was hard to see,

When they'd been her friends forever.

The sparkle in her eyes soon began to fade,

As the teasing and hurtful comments flared,

"You know it was just a joke." They'd said.

But it progressed on and on,

Until the sparkle was replaced with a cold, cold glare.

Her views of life as she knew it were changed,

She lost her child like trust of the world.

But she fought her way through the depression,

And suicidal thoughts,

Because deep inside she knew she was still the same girl.

It's been two years now since that time,

And she's regained her happiness and friends.

They know how stupid they were then,

And they've changed.

Now she's got the sparkle back again.

Fight it if you feel the urge to make a comment,

Especially if it is unprovoked,

You may think it will make others laugh,

But that doesn't matter,

Because to that person, it doesn't feel like a joke.
