My Heart will Never Leave

I look not back

So you will not see,

These tears, flowing from me.

I go with pride to serve my country,

In the cause of those that wish to be free.

It is a foreign land,

But I am proud to serve my Uncle Sam.

Though I will be gone for one whole year,

You will always hold my heart here.

My love for you will not waver or die,

And I will write daily, I swear I will try.

That final kiss as I left today,

Will have to sustain me through my stay.

I will wear my armor, religiously,

So the man that left, returns safely.

I know how tough this will be on you,

But will be tough on me too.

Stand tall, my love, for this sacrifice is also yours,

Unfortunately, there is no medal at the end of your tour.

But you must know this,

With all my heart, you I will miss.

Your little smile and twinkling eyes,

Your cute little feet and those thigh-highs.

I will keep my head down and do my part,

To bring home this love filled heart.

I will sweep you up and take you home,

Never again will I be gone.

Unless the enemy lands on our shores,

From then on my dear….I am yours.

I love this - a heartfelt a story of a man's tug- of - war between love and his duty to his country. I felt the pain he felt as I read along...Thank you for sharing,
