Plinking away, on a keyboard I type

Ignoring this smell that is so ripe,

My face looks so very sour,

What I could really use is a shower.

But I am on a roll, my character in heat,

I have a deadline that I must meet,

Sixty more pages and it will be done,

Being a writer is such fun.

I can write in my drawers if I like,

Take a break to play with my tykes.

Don't have to commute to a job,

Just to my mailbox where there is seldom a mob.

Finishing off my intellectual gem,

I drop it in the mail to them,

Then I wait for the bucks to roll in,

Or the note suggesting

The best place for the manuscript is the trash bin.

Either way I am free to stay home,

Ne'er having to a job roam.

The kids and I have a wonderful time,

I just love this "job" of mine.

Ok, this smell is getting to me,

Off to the shower, 58 more pages

and I will be free.

Well done Huck. I enjoyed the humor tossed in with the rest, and what I've always heard is ...the best job to have is the one you enjoy most. ~~

I LOVE this, and so badly want to trade places with you. I have been writing poetry for 13 years. I am in the process of writing my first novel, but it's much harder than I anticipated. Nice write.

I can certainly relate to the typing of the keyboard. I find typing much faster and easier. Writing doesn't keep up with my mind much and is much harder to make corrections, revisions, etc. It's like flying in the clouds for a write verses walking barefoot over rocks. The easier route is better this time and worth the typos, computer freezes, computer glitches, etc.

Those who can do, those who can't read those who can, Im the later, and I like this very much. The reason we write is to be free, and yet, we remain chained to our work. Maybe I'll stick with writting for me....

Interesting. However just staying put or glued I guess is missing out on experiences too. What do you say to that?
