Lessons Learned

I'm just sitting here in my head again.

Thinking about all the things I'd change,

and where i might've been

if i was given the chances that i know i deserve

instead of watching them become just another lesson learned.

Don't fall too fast for that girl that's not yours.

If she's with someone else it ain't from the Lord,

and no matter how hard you fight

she'll just run away with someone else across the ocean

because it ain't right to be with someone who has a husband.

Even though you know it the whole time...

She's just another lesson learned in life.

Don't go too fast down that country road when you're mad.

You can't predict what everything else is doing,

or where it might be going

like that deer running down the road at night

because you don't know what happens when it sees your lights.

I'm tired of being this way tonight.

I don't want anymore of these lessons learned in life.

Look her in the eyes when she says you make her happy.

Watch deep in her soul just to see what happens.

She'll tell you right then whether it's the truth or a lie.

If it means something, or it's just another lesson learned in life.

Whatever it is... you'll learn the truth in time.

Does she mean it this time,

or is this just another lesson learned in life?

Author's Notes/Comments:

Old wounds sometimes reopen unintentionally. People get hurt when no one meant to hurt them. Sometimes the worst things were done with the best of intentions. No one truly knows who you are until they reopen those wounds, and you don't know who they are until you see how they treat you when you're broken. That's when you see who they really are, but it's not always bad. Only time can tell that answer.
