Noticed and Remembered

To be noticed. To be remembered. These two things might be the biggest pursuits of humankind. People have written songs, defied society or authority, crossed oceans, all to be noticed. People have built pyramids, written sonnets, conquered nations, all to be remembered. We demand that this grand reality take notice of our actions, to mourn our death and carry on our ideals long after we cease to breath. We're arrogant. I'm arrogant, your arrogant, that guy from seventeenth century Netherlands was arrogant and that baby to be born in 2092 will be arrogant. It's a human condition, and I'm not talking about the arrogance a Super Bowl MVP might display, or the type of arrogance a sociopath might feel. No. It's an inherited arrogance. You see we're born into this universe one so big we'll never truly comprehend its existence, how long it's been here and how long it will be around long after our blink of a lifetime has pass it by. We Demand. We demand that this reality takes notice, that it remembers, but of course it doesn't. Think about the most famous person you know, whether they're a contemporary entertainer or a historical figure and no matter how much you know of them, and no matter how much you claim you'll remember them for the rest of your days, they will be forgotten. In fact all they've done or will do is already slipping, already passing us by. And they were someone special, the shine among swine, so what do you think becomes of the average, the less than desirable. They're forgotten in a universe microsecond, perhaps even beneficially so. What I am trying to say is that you, me, and every other person should stop trying to be noticed, to be remembered. Instead we should focus on noticing, on remembering, and not even other people, but this grand reality we were placed in. For the universe by far trumps me and you or the dinosaurs or the aliens that exist out there somewhere in cosmos. But we can't. It's that human condition we are plagued with, even me I wrote this full well knowing my follies but I'll still spend too many of my remaining days trying to be noticed, trying to be remembered, but here's hoping I'm noticed and remembered by the right people.

I'll Probably Die at 72

so I can guarantee you will be remembered for at least 7 more years. Is it me or does Admin seem kinda youngish, so you got another 20 to 40 or so years on PostPoems before he buys his farm.

Here's to

the coveted prize

humans desire

above all other
