Love's Memory

You touched my heart,
But scratched my soul.
You were once the thunder and lightning
To all of my brain storms.
Many a night you lent a caring fire.

Now our contact has faded from
Daylight to twilight, to that eternal night.
Wish there had been better circumstances
For a chance at a real relationship.
Every time I see you I’m sure it’s the last.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda, etc…
It’s all already been said.
Yet I think my thoughts on the matter
Will run longer in ink than blood.
Now I can only “Fair Thee Well.”

I’ll love you as long as my heart beats,
Whether I want it or not.
Time’ll pass and there
Will be somebody else.
Until then your memory torments.
