Wrath or Rejoice

Folder:
Sappy Times

There were sharp rocks
at the bottom

There were corpses
on the reefs

There were ships
out in the distance

That were just
too far to see

Just an hour earlier
we would have seen a sight

Opposing forces fighting

dying to prove who was right

On the cliffs
we could have watched
-Side by side, Hand in hand

On the cliffs
we'd have been thankful
that our love
means more than land.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This piece means a lot to me in so many different ways. I think it was the first time I sat down and tried to write with an emphatic feeling toward someone else in the midst of a situation out of our control. I come back to this poem a lot more than others just to remind myself of the person or the feeling I had when I jotted it down. - September 6th 2018

Damn

Ifoundapoet - nice. (Just reread 4/13.15 and found the cadence and love over land images incredulously engaging.) - slc~
