Message To The Man On The Moon

Close your angered eyes

and reach out blindly to the heart.

Search with the tip of your fingers

and let it unfold a story.

What do you see?

It's difficult I know to look within

but I'll tell you what I can see

as I shut mine.

I see a shy nine-year-old boy

smiling saying hello to you,

the boy who is of the same age.

An old friend reaching out to shake your hand

of warm greetings and cheer.

Pals of long ago

where companionship grew strong,

where great laughs were shared

as well happy times.

Open those distant eyes now,

what can you see?

Someone full grown

and not the nine-year-old boy anymore.

You see a brick wall built standing

before us two.

I see silence and of misunderstandings.

Two souls that once were connected

are disunited forever.

Strangers looking tête-à-tête with no true words spoken.

My voice tries to reach for words to say

the right things though I cannot find any.

And when I say hello presently you say nothing.

When you look at me

you only see another strange face to view

in a blur of faces in a crowd.

It appears Time is hard to appease

when you know things are prone to be forgotten.

And when memories are lost,

they never return.

I know one shouldn't brood

but at times it hurts a little

when you were never remembered at all,

not even the little old friend you knew from before,

just a temporary remembrance

until it is abrogated.
