The Forever Friend

Folder:
Loss / Mourning

Alone in the moonlight here I am

sifting through the dirt roads waiting.

When will you come? ‘cause

words may not be necessary to show

what are in my arms since all I can do

is proffered through a hug.

I couldn’t like all nights beforehand

but I know you’re here somewhere,

my forever friend.

We were brothers in day;  Of time.

We were brothers, enlivened, though

I have forgotten that familiar taste

of happiness we shared once.

Nearby some owls do not hoot

out of condolence but the tears

cease to flow like I’ve done

in the past day you’ve gone.

Too silent tonight's become.

Can you spare some extra love, friend?

The Swiss cheese heart knows somehow

it will bleed henceforth like the sieve.

It's recognizable I'm missing you.

Both we live in distant, glass barricades

praying for Moonshine to light our ways

to each other.  And have you noticed

I’m saddened?

Someday, my someone somewhere friend,

I can join you.

It dawned to me that memories keep

the feeling strong.

But until that moment comes

out of our friendship shall I leave

a piece of my heart so you know I was here

waiting when you’d come by and say hello

like old times.

So goodbye until another hello.

Always, you're in me.

We are forever friends after all.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Today's the anniverstary but rather than to feel sorrow I'm going to feel warm with the memories of you.  After two years I have never forgotten you, Mark.  Fly with smiles in eternal rest man because you're still loved by family and friends.  :)
