Shuttle Driver

Grouse written on his weather beaten face

Carries passengers in his ramshackle shuttle cab

Compelled to step into the faded car

They are tired, wobbly after the short sleep night

The smoke belching car has seen better years

Surprising how the car bears the weight and strain

"Hurry up ! Drive faster ! Else we'll be late!"

"Shut up you headless chickens -

one day you'll meet your fate !"

The commuting office-goers are shocked,uncomfortable

"I've been a driver since I was twenty

I've seen hundreds of your lousy kind !"

"You rotten dandy....push on ,

where'd you get your license from?"

"Where is the space to push forward!" the driver yelled

On the clear freeway the cab gathered speed

The driver hums a Hindipop ... shifts to top gear

Again into congested streets.. wears a nasty frown

Did he see the mirror? An absolute clown !

The gear rod pushes into my right thigh- I can't complain

I commute to earn my bread , his purpose the same

Why is he grousy? ill mannered- can anyone say ?

Author's Notes/Comments:

Shuttle cab drivers often carry six passengers. If one passenger is bulky.. god help the others.

They however help to ease the transport problem. The drivers are so professional !!! Hope readers read this piece.

Perfectly painted picture of

Perfectly painted picture of so many cab drivers!! Loved it. (I think it's from being in such an enclosed space for too many hours a day---it's sort of like a cage, you know??)

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Porar jonney dhonnobad nl1220 (Bengali tr= For reading-- thank you nl1220) Truly a cage ................. the smell of gasoline and ,well, all passengers aren't the civil type !!! Didn't have the patience to write more. Passengers also have their nasty sides which I have not written about. For Rs.40/- the passenger feels that it is his private car & the shuttle-driver paid salary by him. Anyway, thanks again.
