Dark Blue claims so many things-
blood, sweat, fear, frailty,
from the world, from ourselves.

Dark Blue is a brutal force,
coercing emotion into a shallow grave;
unmarked and forgotten.

Dark Blue is a cloistered cell,
lavishly furnished with defiled dignity
and good intentions.

Dark Blue, so often adrift
on bloated bigotry,
equivocation or depravity.

Dark Blue too often
shrouds luminosity, occluded brilliance,
or simply tarnishes.

Dark Blue can even
fade to black, unnoticed.
