Eyes of a Child

A dream lost that I'll never forget.
All the pain of the years past.
They stared back at me in the eyes of a child I'd never met before.
But the hands of time only move forward.
Never to be turned back.
The truth never to be revealed,
I think of her, the daughter I gave away.
I thought I knew the truth to who her father was.
I never questioned even when others did.
Was that little girl her sister?
Or just a chance they looked alike.
So many questions, so much pain.
Memories long forgotten.
Dreams lost along the way,
Strange how a decade can pass in the beat of a heart,
With never a second thought to a question now so hauntingly real.
Yet the truth may never be known.
My arms still long for my little Sadie Lyn.
She's little no more.
Yet for one brief moment I rewound the hands of time.
A dream lost but never forgotten.
An aching heart that will never heal.
It all stared back at me through the eyes of a child I'd never met.
